Spring Nationals

The 1995 U.S. Masters National Indoor Invitational Diving Championships were held at the Alumni Arena Pool, University of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY, April 29-May 1, 1995. Donn Scherer, Meet Director, Jasper Adams, Meet Manager, ably assisted by a fine staff and a great computer system. Approximately 77 divers attended this very efficiently run event.

Summer Nationals

The 1995 U.S. Masters National Outdoor Invitational Diving Championships were held August 18-20, 1995 at the Oakton Pool, Park Ridge, Ill. Bill and Linda McHugh, Meet Directors; Dan Walter, Meet Manager, assisted by Larry Barcheskik Brooke, Bauer, Heidi Spoor, The Kersting Clan, and Carol Swienton, who all did a superb job of coordinating and running the meet. We had approximately 99 divers.

1996

Spring Nationals

The 1996 U.S. Masters National Indoor Invitational Diving Championships were held at the LSU Natatorium, Baton Rouge, LA, April 26-28, 1996, site of the 1988 Indoors. Scott Reich, Meet Director. Penny Camo and staff, Meet Managers. Approximately 70 men and women attended this meet, with al big contingent from Ft. Lauderdale, in uniform.

Summer Nationals

The 1996 U.S. Masters National Outdoor Invitational Diving Championships were held at the AAF Rose Bowl Aquatic Complex, Pasadena,California, August 23-25, 1996. Ted Everett, Meet Director. Jeff Stabile and Nancy Morris, Meet Managers, ably assisted by the Rose Bowl Booster Club staff, who ran the tables, snack concessions, etc. A group of 121 divers, the largest ever assembled for our National Championships, completed a banner year for Masters Diving.

VI World Masters Aquatic Championships

The VI World Masters Aquatic Championships were held at the Ponds Forge International Sports Complex, Sheffield, England, June 22 thru July 3, 1996. The diving championships portion was held June 30th thru July 3rd. There were over 166 registered entrants, with a slightly smaller number actually participating,102 men and 59 women. Germany and Great Britain had the most entrants. Adrian Hinchcliffe was the meet coordinator. Ricky Wood was the meet director, ably assisted by a wonderful staff. Birger Kivela was the head referee.

1997

Spring Nationals

The 1997 (Winter/Spring) U.S. Masters National Indoor Invitational Diving Championships were held at the Mabee memorial Aquatic Center, Midland, Texas, April 25-27, 1997. Jennifer Mangum, Meet Director. Brad Swendig and staff, Meet Managers. 56 brave souls made it to the Permian Basin at Midlands Texas to enjoy a small but intimate competition and fellowship. Lots of new kiddies present, lots of new Moms back diving.

The 1997 U.S.Masters Summer National Outdoor Invitational Diving Championships were held at Moss Farms diving facility, Moultrie,Georgia, August 22-24, 1997. Meet Director, Camila McLean. Meet Referee, Wenbo Chen. Meet Secretary, Anehea Bassham, with a wonderful staff of folks who went out of their way to show us the true meaning of “Southern” Hospitality. A full program directory, hospitality bag with water bottle, fan, sun visor and many extras. This meet was first class all the way. 65 divers attended.

1998

Spring Nationals

The 1998 (Winter/Spring) U.S. Masters National Indoor Invitational Diving Championships were held at the Orlando YMCA Aquatics Center, April 26-28,1998, Jay Lerew, Meet Director, assisted by Tom Trapp and a wonderful staff from the Team Orlando Diving Booster Club. Carrie Haan was the administrative assistant and had each event’s results out almost immediately, thanks to the computer scoring system and her great laptop computer. The Booster Club provided excellent poolside breakfast and lunch and other refreshments for the 57 men and women who showed up to compete, plus a great group of spectators.

The 1998 Masters Summer Outdoor National Invitational Diving Championships were held at the Santa Clara International Swim Complex, August 21-23, 1998. Karla Helder, meet director, assisted by Tom Trapp, John Blake, and host staff. 75 divers attended this rather small meet.

VIIth World Masters Swimming, Diving et al Championships

The VIIth World Masters Swimming, Diving et al Championships were held at the Complexe Sportif Mohamed V in Casablanca, Morocco, June 19-June 30, 1998. The diving portion was held June l9-22. Mr. Ahmed Zaki was the chairman of the organizing committee. There were 95 divers from around the world who participated in the diving events.

IVth Masters World Games

The IVth Masters World Games were sponsored by Nike and the diving portion was held at the Tualatin Hills Aquatic Complex, Beaverton, Oregon, August 9-11, 1998. Ron Piemonte was Commissioner of Diving (meet director), Tom Trapp was head referee and Lori Leach was meet secretary and with a great staff ran the scoring table. Approximately 72 divers from around world attended this meet, run under FINA rules. The medals were truly gorgeous and worth the effort, not withstanding the the rather stiff $200 entry fee, which otherwise probably kept a larger number of folks from participating, especially from the USA, what with our Masters Outdoor championships coming up in 10 days.
