We are only 3 weeks away!

It is hard to believe how quickly time passes. In three weeks we will descend upon Fort Lauderdale to compete in the 2018 Spring National Championships.

The meet is up on DiveMeets and ready to take your registration. Please do not wait until the last minute to register and put in your dives. Remember – if you need to change your dives at any time you can. We will allow you to change “on the board” if needed. Please don’t delay!

The Marriott Hotel across from the pool has extended registration and will honor rates until FRIDAY 4/27. Best Western is a bit further from the pool but has a lower rate and includes breakfast. Make arrangements and reservations sooner rather than later. Best Western will honor rates until 5/1.

Neither hotel has a shuttle from the airport, yet both are less than 6 miles from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. This entire weekend will be very walkable! Our recommendation is to take an Uber or Taxi and not rent a car.

Jungle Cruise Banquet

We are doing out banquet a bit differently this year. We are taking a river cruise and will be eating on a private island. The Jungle Queen Cruise (Banquet) departs at 6:00 pm and ends at 10:00 pm. For large groups, they request to be at the boat by 5:00 pm. They leave promptly at 6. If you are not there you will be left behind.

I know that this sounds harsh – but they are on a tight schedule due to the many bridges that have to be opened as you cruise down the river to the island. Please be on time!

The main course is all you can eat Barbecue Ribs & Chicken. If anyone has any dietary restrictions they have alternative choices for the meal. Vegetarians can get a grilled veggie bowl or a very large salad (huge). The normal meal components are served family style and will be available to you as well (steak fries, peel & eat shrimp, vegetarian baked beans, cole slaw, and bread).

If you have dietary restrictions or want an alternate meal you should email LISA MITRANI as soon as you can. She can be reached at mitranilisa@gmail.com

PAN-AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS:

If you plan on competing in the Pan-American Masters Championships in Orlando in July – please let me know. The meet will take place starting on Sunday July 24th and ending on Tuesday July 26th. It is unusual that this event is not being held in our normal “weekend” format. Though we tried to amend the dates – UANA was not able to change the schedule.

As this is an INTERNATIONAL meet – I am working with USA Diving to make outfitting available to us for the meet. It is important that I know what kind of numbers I am looking at – so please let me know sooner rather than later if you plan on attending. gerry@mypotomac.com

I am SO excited to see everyone in May. We have changed the format of this meet – and I am certain everyone will be incredibly pleased with the changes.

I wake up every day pleasantly sore from my board time preparing for this meet. With that said – I want to be sure that everyone else training does so in moderation and carefully. First rule of Masters? Don’t get hurt. Stretch, rest and repeat….

Let’s all get excited about our spring and summer schedule! Until I see you at our next meet….

I am in your service! Gerry Dunn – Chairman
